Another example of a plant being improperly listed until a project forced some field work: In the 1980s, scientists found a little vine, the Tumamoc globeberry, on a hill near Tucson. They said it was rare and restricted in habitat. They succeeded in 1987 in getting this plant listed as an endangered species. But, when the Bureau of Reclamation and FWS did a survey for the Central Arizona Project Canal, they found the globeberry all over the place. It was actually a common weed and was delisted in 1993.
